7 Seconds, Hamilton and First Impressions

Your first impression is your first shot. How do you make the most of it?

Have you ever watched Hamilton?  I pushed it off for years because I didn’t think that musical was for me.

Wrong. Thoroughly unexpected… and surprisingly inspirational.

One line, in particular, stood out to me, “I’m not throwin’ away my shot.”

According to Forbes, seven seconds — It’s all the time we are given to make a first impression. Yeah, yeah… dress and groom appropriately… BUT what’s that mean for your company and brand?

How do you capture your culture, mission, values, employees’ passion, and most importantly … the exact messaging you want to convey?

Not the message you talked about in the board room or on that Zoom call, but instead, the exact message you want to convey AFTER the meeting, in the board room, and behind closed doors.

It’s the second time around with the decision-makers you didn’t speak with… the ones who will approve and pay for your product or service.

Authentic Video.

It’s a way to connect information + emotion. Emotionally connecting people to your mission helps you excite stakeholders, inspire employees, build a community and engage customers to move people towards your product or service.

To double-tap further into the timeline from Forbes, “some research suggests a tenth of a second is all it takes to start determining traits like trustworthiness.”

Trustworthiness … in a tenth of a second?

If a picture is worth a thousand words, let’s capture the right image and spark, grab their attention and run.

“Rise up, I’m not throwin’ away my shot.”
